The Canadian Hospital Reporting Project (CHRP) is an initiative of the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) that provides information about the performance of Canadian acute care hospitals.

Niagara Health is one of more than 600 acute care facilities from across the country participating in the project.
Results for 21 clinical indicators and nine financial indicators that are comparable at the facility level are available through an interactive tool on CIHI’s website. Also included are hospital and community profiles that provide additional insight and assist with the interpretation of the indicator results.
Hospital profiles feature information such as average length of stay and number of beds. Community profiles provide information about the geographical region, such as rural area population and number of seniors.
Canadians can use information like this to learn more about their local hospital and the broader healthcare system. For example, if someone in Community X has an upcoming knee replacement surgery scheduled at Local Hospital A, he or she can find out what the readmission rate for this procedure is for Local Hospital A. He or she can also look at how the rate compares with the Canadian average. This type of information can help patients ask more informed questions and help them better understand and prepare for their experience.
Information such as this supports transparency and accountability in the health care system. It can inform local discussions on health care as well as provincial and national conversations.
