Healthcare researchers, learners and professionals from across Niagara, Hamilton and the Greater Toronto Area will gather at Niagara College’s Daniel J. Patterson Campus in Niagara-on-the-Lake on Thursday, May 1 for the fifth edition of Niagara Health Knowledge Institute (NHKI) Research Day.
This year’s theme, Patient Engagement and Partnership in Community Hospital Research, emphasizes the growing importance of involving patients, caregivers and communities in every stage of the research process.
Headlining the event is Dr. Kerry Kuluski, an expert in patient and family-centred care and the Dr. Mathias Gysler Research Chair at Trillium Health Partners’ Institute for Better Health. In her keynote address, Dr. Kuluski will share practical frameworks and case studies that demonstrate how engaging with patients and caregivers can lead to stronger research outcomes, improved care experiences and long-term, system improvements.
“Research Day brings together some of the most dedicated minds in healthcare, who are working to make research more inclusive, relevant and responsive to community needs,” says Elaina Orlando, NHKI Research Manager. “We’re excited to bring together leading minds to collaborate and grow in ways that ultimately improve care for patients across the region.”
In addition to the keynote address, Research Day will include:
- Interactive workshops to support professional development and skill-building;
- More than 60 health research poster presentations from emerging and established researchers;
- Oral presentations highlighting impactful studies and programs;
- Networking opportunities to foster cross-sector collaboration;
- Niagara Health staff and physician research awards, celebrating excellence in community hospital research.
With more than 150 registered to attend, Research Day continues to grow as a platform for knowledge sharing, showcasing new research and deepening partnerships that can help transform care in Niagara.
