Serendipity was at play on Saturday when Laura Anderson and Matt Clarke, of St. Catharines, welcomed their first child Fiona at 5:42 a.m., the first baby born after the launch of Niagara Health’s new Hospital Information System (HIS).
The couple both work as Information Technology (IT) implementation techs. They were excited by the coincidence that their daughter was born during Niagara Health’s largest IT implementation in its history.
“All of the nurses, from triage to delivery, were amazing,” said Clarke.
Anderson and Clarke noted that their family's entire visit went smoothly despite having their baby during the HIS launch.
Niagara Health continues to ask patients and visitors for patience and understanding as we make this historic transition. Some delays are to be expected and our teams are doing their best to address each patient’s needs and reduce delays.
The new HIS represents more than just a digital tool; it is a significant advancement in enhancing patient care in Niagara. The new HIS streamlines the way patient information is communicated, benefiting not only Anderson and Clarke but all patients.
There is now one source of truth for patient records, eliminating the need for patients to repeat their health history at every visit and to every healthcare professional they encounter during their visit. Medical information, test results and prescriptions are securely stored and available to the entire care team. This leads to safer, quicker and more personalized healthcare, which is improving how staff and physicians do their jobs, and benefits patients and families.
