The Niagara Health Foundation and Niagara Health proudly announce a monumental step forward in healthcare as the Marotta family has pledged to make a transformational contribution to the St. Catharines hospital of $15 million. The Marotta family’s generous donation will significantly impact the future of care at the St. Catharines hospital, fostering innovation, enhancing services and vitally-needed equipment upgrades that will benefit our community for generations to come.
In recognition of the gift, the St. Catharines hospital will be named the Marotta Family Hospital. After touring the St. Catharines hospital, Angela Marotta and Melissa Marotta-Paolicelli were moved to contribute to the improvements and expansion of the healthcare services that are being offered within the hospital.
This gesture underscores the incredible philanthropic gifts the Marotta family has made across Niagara’s healthcare, education and non-profit sectors. In April 2023, the Marotta family committed $10 million to the It’s Our Future campaign in support of the new South Niagara Hospital. With their steadfast commitment to give back in Niagara, the Marotta family is furthering their vision of supporting the community that they call home. “Having such a close connection to the Niagara region, as a family, we know the positive impact this donation will have on the health and well-being of the community. This beautiful hospital plays a crucial role in providing essential healthcare services, and it is an honour for our family to be able to give back in this way as it represents what is most important to us – the health and well-being of family and the ones you care about.” – Angela Marotta and Melissa Marotta-Paolicelli.
For over 30 years, the Marotta family has owned and operated Solmar Development Corporation and has poured passion and expertise into building thoughtfully planned communities across the Greater Toronto Area and Niagara-on-the-Lake. In addition, Angela and Melissa co-founded Two Sisters Vineyards and the soon-to-be-opened Stone Eagle Winery. Angela and Melissa have embraced the opportunity to put down roots in the Niagara region. With an unwavering vision, Two Sisters Vineyards brings an extraordinary wine and culinary experience to the heart of Niagara-on-the-Lake. Two Sisters Vineyards was awarded “Best Small Winery in Canada” by the National Wine Awards and the “Business That Gives Back Award” in 2022 by the Greater Niagara Chamber of Commerce. Two Sisters Vineyards has been recognized as one of Canada’s Top Growing Companies by The Globe and Mail in 2019. In 2023, Angela and Melissa opened 11th POST on Queen Restaurant in the heart of Niagara-On-The-Lake’s Old Town.
“The Marotta family’s generous gift is transformational for Niagara Health, and the naming of the St. Catharines hospital is a fitting recognition of their dedication to the community. This donation will help us provide the best care possible to our patients, continue to attract and retain top talent and help make sure our staff, physicians and patients have access to cutting-edge equipment. This type of community philanthropy is the lifeblood of a hospital and we are very grateful.” – Lynn Guerriero, President and CEO, Niagara Health.

Their dedication serves as a beacon, illuminating a path toward a healthier and brighter future for our community.” – Andrea Scott, President and CEO of Niagara Health Foundation.
The St. Catharines hospital opened in March 2013 and stands as a cornerstone of healthcare excellence in Niagara. It is home to Centres of Excellence in Cancer Care, Cardiac Care, Kidney Care, Mental Health Services and Women & Babies health. The opening of the St. Catharines hospital meant Niagara residents no longer needed to travel out of region for a number of treatments, including those for cancer, cardiology and neonatal care. The hospital continues to be a vital resource for our community’s well-being.
