A message from Lynn Guerriero, President and CEO.
Earlier today there was an unfortunate incident at our St. Catharines hospital, when a vehicle driven by a visitor struck our building near the Walker Family Cancer Centre entrance, causing significant damage. The driver did not suffer serious injuries and received care in our Emergency Department. Fortunately no staff, physicians or patients inside the building were physically injured.
I recognize this was a frightening incident for our teams working in the area and I would encourage them to reach out if they need support. A Code Lavender was called following the incident and I want to thank Spiritual Care, Wellness and Occupational Health and Safety for providing support on the scene.
I’ve asked the Facilities team to immediately look into options for protecting parts of our buildings where this type of incident could occur.
I want to extend my appreciation to first responders, and to all staff and physicians involved who quickly and efficiently managed the situation. This is not a situation we see often, and it was handled with speed and professionalism by all team members. Thank you to all of our teams for coming together in this situation and allowing hospital operations to continue as scheduled.
