Reminder of visiting restrictions at Niagara Health

Given the COVID-19 activity in the hospital and in the community, it is important that we maintain a safe environment for staff, physicians, patients and families. Niagara Health implemented temporary restrictions on Dec. 28, 2021. Visitors are not permitted at this time. Here is an overview of the guidelines in place:

Inpatients:

Essential Care Partners (ECPs) – designated by the patient and care team in advance – are permitted at the bedside with patients with a length of stay of seven days or more. Proof of COVID-19 vaccination will be required.

A Support Person (who is 16 years of age or older and can accompany the patient and support them through their care) is permitted in exceptional circumstances determined by the clinical team for the following patients:

  • End of life;
  • Children under 18;
  • Cognitive impairment/dementia/developmental disability;
  • Labour and delivery; 
  • Individuals with an Indigenous patient advocate. 

Outpatients:

Support Person permitted in exceptional circumstances determined by the clinical team for the following patients:

  • Children under 18;
  • Cognitive impairment/dementia/developmental disability;
  • Physical impairment (i.e. walker, wheelchair);
  • Oncology diagnosis​;
  • Individuals with an Indigenous patient advocate.

Emergency Department/Urgent Care Centre:

Support Person permitted in exceptional circumstances determined by the clinical team for the following patients:

  • Life-Altering Circumstances
    • Trauma;
    • End of life;
    • Early pregnancy complications and loss;
    • Altered level of consciousness.
  • Vulnerable Patients
    • Children under 18;
    • 80 years of age and older;
    • Cognitive impairment/dementia/developmental disability;
    • Physical impairment (i.e. walker, wheelchair);
    • Language barrier;
    • Individuals with an Indigenous patient advocate. 
  • Mental Health Crisis
