Niagara Health achieves Level 2 Certification as a Choosing Wisely Canada hospital.
Niagara Health is proud to announce that thanks to the hard work of our Clinical Utilization Committee, we recently achieved Level 2 Certification as a Choosing Wisely Canada Hospital for demonstrating our commitment to reducing unnecessary medical tests, treatments and procedures across our sites. Niagara Health is one of only four participating hospitals in Canada currently designated.
By implementing at least eight Choosing Wisely Canada recommendations, including three using quality improvement methods, our hospital designation was upgraded to Level 2.
While various medical tests often play an important part in managing health, sometimes more tests are not always a good thing. Choosing Wisely Canada’s mission is to encourage physicians and patients to engage in healthy conversations about their healthcare and make smart choices to ensure high-quality care.
Niagara Health is proud to be a part of the global Choosing Wisely movement by making changes, small or large, to reduce overuse. Hospitals that are certified have reported better use of resources and created more efficient processes, resulting in safer and higher quality care for patients and the health care system.
Our Clinical Utilization Committee has been instrumental in helping Niagara Health achieve the Level 2 Certification as part of our commitment to providing extraordinary care. This committee continues to be led by Internist Dr. Shlok Gupta and consists of representatives from pharmacy, diagnostic imaging, laboratory medicine and finance.
“I am extremely proud of the work of our committee, and this national recognition for Niagara Health’s focus on patient-centred care. Reaching Level 2 designation is part of our ongoing commitment to safe, quality care,” says Dr. Gupta. “Our goal is to achieve all three levels of certification and work towards continuous improvement of care at the hospital.”
