Outbreak of COVID-19 on inpatient unit in St. Catharines declared over

An outbreak of COVID-19 on inpatient Unit 4A at the St. Catharines Site is now over.

After 14 days of enhanced monitoring of patients and staff showed there had been no evidence of further transmission and no new additional COVID-19 cases on the unit, our Infection Prevention and Control team was able to declare an end to the outbreak.

The outbreak was declared after one of our healthcare workers tested positive for the virus.

“Thank you to our team for managing this outbreak and ensuring that all important infection prevention and control measures were implemented and consistently practiced,” says Derek McNally, Niagara Health’s Executive Vice President Clinical Services and Chief Nursing Executive.

“To protect our patients and teams, we will continue to be vigilant and maintain best practices in infection control, including meticulous hand hygiene, physical distancing and the appropriate use of personal protective equipment.”
