The transition planning is moving forward at Niagara Health as President Suzanne Johnston prepares to step down at the end of June 2019.
Angela Zangari, Executive Vice President, Finance and Operations, will assume the role of Interim President while we conduct a formal search for our next President. Angela’s appointment takes effect on July 1. Angela is a seasoned executive with 28 years of service at Niagara Health. She acted in the Interim President’s role prior to Suzanne’s arrival in September 2014.
During this transition, Angela will report to both the Niagara Health Board of Directors and the Chief Executive Officer.
"Angela will continue to provide strong leadership to her existing portfolios, which include Financial Services, Support Services, Biomedical, Information Management and Technology, as well as oversight of the planning for the new South Niagara Project in Niagara Falls," says John Bragagnolo, Chair, Niagara Health Board of Directors.
"We would like to thank Angela for accepting this important interim role — keeping the momentum going during this transition period and building on the excellent progress our organization has made in enhancing care experiences for our patients and families under Suzanne’s leadership," says Dr. Tom Stewart, CEO of Niagara Health and President and CEO of St. Joseph’s Health System.
The launch of a formal recruitment process for a new President will begin in the coming weeks. A Board search committee has been established and will be co-chaired by the Board Chair and the CEO. The President’s Search Committee will include Niagara Health Board members, executive and physician leadership, as well as our partners. We are also pleased to include a Patient Partner on the committee, drawn from our new Niagara Health Engagement Network.
A professional search firm will assist with the recruitment. In searching for the best leadership for Niagara Health, we will cast a wide net, and open the competition up to candidates both locally and from across Canada.
Over the past four and a half years, Suzanne has led Niagara Health with passion and commitment. Her inspired leadership has resulted in a culture shift for Niagara Health, one that recognizes and values relationship building, partnerships and team work. We are grateful for the lasting contributions she has made to advancing our purpose of Extraordinary Caring. Every Person. Every Time.
