Niagara Health looking for volunteers

Posted Oct 13th, 2016

If you’re looking for a rewarding experience by getting involved in your community and are retired or have consistent availability, please consider joining Niagara Health’s team of extraordinary volunteers.

We’re looking for people who have excellent interpersonal skills and enjoy comforting others to volunteer at our Niagara Falls and Welland hospital sites.

“Our volunteers make a meaningful difference every day in the lives of our patients,” says Andrea McCollum, Niagara Health Volunteer Coordinator. “We have a variety of opportunities in patient and non-patient areas where volunteers can do purposeful work that directly has a positive impact on healthcare in their community.”

Based on our current needs during the day, we’re focusing on retirees like Sharon Wilson who volunteers three mornings a week at Greater Niagara General in Niagara Falls. In addition to volunteering in the Emergency Department, Ms. Wilson assists patients during mealtime as part of our More-2-Eat program and helps patients get to their physiotherapy appointments.

“You’re doing work that helps out both patients and the staff. I find they really appreciate the fact that you’re there,” says Ms. Wilson. “It’s really rewarding to volunteer. I think it’s that little bit of extra time you can spend with somebody that they might not have otherwise that can make a difference in their day.”

Our volunteers make a commitment to scheduled shifts, which include different combinations of positions to gain a broad range of experience.
