Pictured above: Dr. Janice Giesbrecht, Interim President and CEO Sue Matthews and Niagara Regional Chair Gary Burroughs accept the $500,000 pledge from Emterra founder and CEO Emmie Leung and her daughter.
A unique donation of $500,000 (possibly more!) was pledged at an event held on the construction site this afternoon. Emterra Group, the recycling contractor for the Region of Niagara, has pledged that for every tonne of recyclables put into blue and grey boxes by Niagara households, they will contribute $1 to the It’s Our Time fundraising campaign!
With the Make Your Contribution at the Curb campaign, the more we recycle, the less waste goes in our landfill, and the more money Emterra will donate to our new cancer centre!
Only 221 days until construction is complete!
In recognition of this pledge, the Pedestrian Walking Trail at the new hospital has been named in Emterra’s honour. The 900-metre paved and landscaped walking trail winds around the perimeter of the new site, offering an inviting outdoor space for patients and visitors, and contributing to a healthy work environment for staff when when the hospital opens in 2013.
