Nurses holding car wash in Welland to raise money for community health clinic in Africa

Posted Jun 22nd, 2010

2010 is the International Year of the Nurse, (IYN) and Niagara Health System (NHS) nurses are stepping up to help support and fund the building of a community health clinic in Kenya, Africa.

Partnering with international child rights and relief agency Free the Children, NHS nurses will organize a number of fundraising events over the next year to send a contingent of youth from Niagara to a Kenyan village to help build the facility. Organizers of the effort hope to raise approximately $20,000, enough funds to send five to six young people to Kenya.

The latest fundraising event will be a car wash on Sunday, June 27, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Canadian Tire store at 158 Primeway Drive in Welland. Organizers are requesting a minimum $5 donation per car wash.

Niagara high school students, aged 13 to 18, wishing to volunteer at the car wash and become eligible to qualify for the draw to go to Kenya are asked to contact event coordinator Eric Doucette at eric.doucette@niagarahealth.on.ca.

Special thanks to Canadian Tire Welland for supporting this event.
