Posted Aug 16th, 2010

Niagara, ON: Pick up some great bargains on gently used items at a Giant Garage Sale and BBQ on Sunday, August 22, being organized by Niagara nurses to build a health clinic in Kenya.

Nurses with the Niagara Health System have been organizing and pricing furniture, bedding and linens, baby items and toys, small appliances, garden tools, sports and camping equipment, clothing, jewelry and more for the yard sale, taking place at the Royal LePage Plaza beside McDonalds on Niagara Street, Welland, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. A BBQ is also taking place during the sale.

Items from across Niagara have been collected and last-minute entries are welcome the morning of the sale.

As part of International Year of the Nurse, Niagara Health System nurses are holding a number of fundraising events for a building project to provide better healthcare in Africa. They are raising $20,000 so up to six Niagara teens can travel to Kenya to help build a health clinic, in partnership with international child rights and relief agency Free the Children.

Already, two car washes and other events have raised more than $2,300. The next event is a Pasta Dinner Dance, Thursday, September 30 at the Royal Canadian Legion, Morningstar Drive, Welland, doors open at 6 p.m., tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for children.
