Niagara Health Social Work

A social worker’s role in the hospital setting is to support patients and their families through their healthcare journey.

Social workers work with diverse populations and help address the impact of illness and treatment for patients. The goal is to restore, maintain and enhance social and emotional functioning by focusing on strengths, linking people to necessary resources and providing supportive counselling for their individual and unique situations.  This, in turn, will promote quality of life for the patient when they are ready to be discharged back into the community.
