Individual who travelled from West Africa tests negative

Posted Sep 4th, 2014

Update from Dr. Tom Stewart, Chief of Staff and Executive Vice President Medical

We are pleased to report that the individual in our care has tested negative for the Ebola virus and remains stable at our St. Catharines Site.

We are really impressed with how everyone on our team pulled together to manage this situation. A tremendous amount of work went into ensuring we were prepared for a potential Ebola case and providing a safe work environment for all. It was crucial that our protocols were immediately implemented, and everyone moved quickly, safely and appropriately as planned.

Although our risks are low in Niagara, we will monitor the situation on an ongoing basis for the health and safety of all. We must all continue to be vigilant with hand hygiene and infection prevention and control protocols.

As always, we are grateful to our staff, physicians and volunteers for their dedication, professionalism and commitment to our patients and families. We are also thankful for the provincial leadership in our preparedness efforts, and for the support and cooperation of our community partners, members of the public and media during this time.
